It’s no wonder that people move to Pennant Hills and never leave - this lovely, elevated Northern Districts suburb has leafy streets, a mix of stunning homes, and plenty of nature to get out and explore. It makes a wonderful Sydney base for families after that classic mix of good schools, comfortable homes, green spaces and city access.
The traditional owners were the Dharug people, who lived around the springs and waterholes, and the suburb is believed to have been named after the English botanist Thomas Pennant, who was a friend of the more famous naturalist Sir Joseph Banks.
A peaceful and safe area with a strong community spirit, it’s also - as the name suggests - more elevated than surrounding areas. Residents enjoy beautiful spring colour, stunning autumn displays and crisp, cold air in midwinter thanks to this slight elevation.
Here at Page&Co, Pennant Hills has long been one of our key suburbs, and we list homes and receive enquiries from house hunters interested in buying here. This week, we’re pulling together a list of the suburb’s highlights and some current market information for sellers.
First things first - location
Pennant Hills is located approximately 22 kilometres north of Sydney's CBD. It’s well-connected by public transport, with a train station taking you into the city in under an hour, making it a convenient option for commuters. There are also great bus connections, and the M2 is easily accessible for the city, while the M1 is convenient for holidays and long weekend escapes up the coast.
One of the most treasured features of Pennant Hills is its proximity to the Lane Cove National Park - a slice of wilderness to dip into year round for hiking, picnicking, kayaking along the beautiful Lane Cove River or just keeping an eye out for wallabies and echidnas while having a hike.
The Northern Districts have long been known for their quality schools, both state and private. If you live in Pennant Hills you will be within the catchment for Pennant Hills Public School, Pennant Hills High School and St Agatha’s Catholic School, plus you will be perfectly positioned to access a selection of highly sought-after private schools, including Loreto Normanhurst and Tara Anglican School for Girls.
