Video: Six ways to wow home buyers when selling

How can you add value to your home when it's for sale without breaking the bank? I’ve learned these six things wow buyers without too much outlay.

Nothing beats a fresh coat of paint. It instantly modernises your home, taking away years of wear and tear.

Declutter your home. All types of buyers like to see plenty of storage space. If you have multiples of any item, give them away or put them into storage until you’re ready to move.

Make cosmetic improvements to your kitchen. This could include refreshing cupboard doors or handles, and replacing tapware or older-style lighting.

Next is your bathroom. A worn-out bathtub can be sprayed so it looks like new. Swap framed shower surrounds for frameless for a more modern look. Replace old tapware and check your vanity and mirrors for water or steam damage.

Kerb appeal is key to getting more people in on open home days. Hire a professional to pressure wash walls and paving. Add a fresh coat of paint to the front door and fencing. Book a gardener to tidy up your front and back yards, mow and edge the lawns, clean the pool and mulch flower beds. You might also consider replacing your letter box and making sure your house number is easily visible.

Finally, ask your agent to engage a stylist. They can either stage your entire home or perhaps just a few rooms. In my experience, staging your home can add thousands to the sale price.

When you are ready to start preparing your home for sale, ask me to view your property and I’ll tell you where your time and energy can be best spent. I can also send you my room-by-room checklist.
